William Mari is an Associate Professor of Media History and Media Law at Louisiana State University's Manship School of Mass Communication. He holds an MPhil from Wolfson College, Cambridge and a PhD from the University of Washington. His research examines media history, media law, and analog-to-digital transitions in journalism, with particular focus on how technological disruptions impact news workers.
Dr. Mari's research interests center on the historical evolution of journalism technologies, from computerization of newsrooms to contemporary digital transformations. His work analyzes how technological innovations reshape journalistic practices, social dynamics in newsrooms, and media industry structures.
His publications predominantly explore historical media transitions, digital journalism ethics, and the societal impacts of newsroom technologies, as evidenced by his extensive research on computer adoption in news environments.
Dr. Mari serves as chair of the History Division for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and maintains active membership in several professional organizations including the American Journalism Historians Association. He previously served as a public affairs officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
