William M. Reddy is William T. Laprade Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History and Cultural Anthropology at Duke University, pioneering the historical study of emotions across cultures.
Education includes:

- B.A. from University of Chicago (1969)
Research develops frameworks for understanding emotional expression across historical periods, including award-winning comparative studies of romantic love. The monograph 'The Making of Romantic Love' received the Pinkney Prize for best book in French History (2012). Current work examines emotion/reason relations in 17th century thought and modernity's conceptual foundations.
Honors include election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2014) and multiple NEH fellowships. Department service includes chairing Duke's History Department (2006-2012).
