William Lychack is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh, affiliated with the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. He teaches in the Writing Program and is a noted author of literary fiction, cultural history, and children’s literature. His work has been featured in prestigious anthologies like The Best American Short Stories and public radio’s This American Life.
Research Interests: Lychack’s creative and scholarly work explores themes of memory, identity, and cultural narratives. His novels and stories, such as Cargill Falls and The Wasp Eater, blend vivid storytelling with deep historical and psychological inquiry. His nonfiction includes a cultural history of cement, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to writing.
Awards & Honors: Lychack has received major recognition for his writing, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Christopher Isherwood Award, and the Sherwood Anderson Award. His work has also been highlighted by the Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers program.
