William Lucas Patton serves as an Adjunct Instructor of English at Cumberland University within The Millard and JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. With over six years of teaching experience across Tennessee institutions including Motlow State Community College, Columbia State Community College, and his current position at Cumberland University, he holds a strong foundation in humanities education.
His academic credentials feature:
- B.A. in English and Theatre from Lyon College
- M.A.E. from the University of Memphis
- Second M.A.E. from Middle Tennessee State University
Patton's research investigates the philosophical dimensions of pop culture across diverse media landscapes. His work critically examines Shakespearean drama alongside contemporary phenomena including Joss Whedon's fantasy-horror television, anime (notably Cowboy Bebop), modern science fiction, and Disney's narrative archetypes. This interdisciplinary approach reveals how cultural artifacts reflect and shape societal values through evolving storytelling frameworks.
Actively engaged in Rutherford County's arts community, he regularly performs in theater productions and participates in local poetry and literature clubs. His current teaching responsibilities at Cumberland University encompass Grammar Studies and Introduction to Literature courses, bridging classical literary traditions with modern media analysis.
