Dr. William Lewis is a Professor in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. He specializes in persuasive writing, argumentation, and content-area literacy education. Lewis holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Delaware (2008), an M.A. in English from Millersville University (1997), and a B.S. in English Secondary Education from East Stroudsburg University (1986). His research emphasizes disciplinary literacy, text-based writing strategies, and equity-oriented instructional frameworks.
His professional roles include coordinating the middle school ELA concentration in teacher education, leading study abroad programs, and serving as literacy specialist for the federally funded Historical Literacy Project. Lewis has also consulted for state education departments and delivered professional development on content-area literacy.
