William Hebenton

William Hebenton is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Manchester, where he directs the undergraduate Criminology Program. As a Research Associate of the University's Centre for Chinese Studies, his scholarship focuses on comparative criminal justice systems with specialization in China and Taiwan.

His extensive research portfolio includes:

• Cross-national studies of punitiveness and criminal justice policy
• Historical analysis of criminology development in China
• Policing of political protest in England and Taiwan
• Regulatory frameworks for sexual offender management

Dr. Hebenton currently supervises doctoral candidates researching violence against women in China, police powers in Taiwan, police training methodologies, and incarcerated fathers. His international collaborations include partnerships with National Taipei University and East China University of Political Science and Law.
