William Derden is an Adjunct Professor of Education at Bethel University, specializing in Special Education Due Process and Law. He holds roles in both the College of Adult and Professional Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences. His academic journey includes a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Governors State University (2001), an M.A. in Special Education/Emotional Behavioral from the University of St. Thomas (2004), an Ed.S. in K-12 Administration (2007), and an Ed.D. in K-12 Educational Leadership from Bethel University (2019).

Dr. Derden’s research focuses on Special Education Law, Professional Learning Communities, and strategies to improve outcomes for ELL students. His 2019 dissertation explored the impact of teacher collaboration on ELL student achievement.
He has presented on Special Education Law (MAAP Conference, 2014) and Social Skills/Classroom Management (Rahn Elementary, 2014). Professional memberships include the Council for Exceptional Children and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Licensed as a Special Education Director (K-12), Principal (K-12), and Special Education - EBD (K-12), Dr. Derden teaches courses such as SPED 625, SPED 425, and SPED 605. He emphasizes practical legal and administrative training for educators, reflecting his belief that education must blend intelligence with character development, as articulated by Dr. Martin L. King Jr.
