معرفی
William DePauw is Senior Professor of Practice in Ceramics at Tulane University’s Newcomb Art Department, a position he has held since 2006. His dual role combines full-time teaching with lab-technical responsibility for the ceramics program.
Education
- M.F.A. Ceramics, Tulane University, 2004
- B.F.A. Painting, Northern Michigan University, 1996
Research & Creative Practice
DePauw’s studio work interrogates the tension between image and object, form and reference, producing sculptures and installations that often juxtapose vessel traditions with conceptual inquiries. His practice spans wheel-thrown ceramics, mold-made multiples, mixed-media constructions and large-scale installations.
Recent bodies such as Trophies and Grave Markers (2022) deploy color, line and text to question commemoration and material memory. The work oscillates between functional pottery and autonomous sculpture, foregrounding surface, glaze and decal as carriers of narrative.
Exhibitions & Recognition
His pieces have appeared in prominent venues including:
- Ogden Museum of Southern Art (New Orleans)
- Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans
- Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art, Alfred University, NY
- New Bedford Art Museum, MA
- Marcia Wood Gallery, Atlanta
He is a founding member of Staple Goods, a cooperatively-run artist gallery in New Orleans that supports emerging and established local artists.

He maintains and oversees the ceramics studio and kiln facilities at the Woldenberg Art Center.
