William Bubelis is an Associate Professor of Classics at Washington University and the Curator of the John Max Wulfing Coin Collection. His work focuses on the intersection of economics, religion, and state in the ancient Mediterranean world (c. 750–250 BCE), emphasizing Greece and the Near East. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago.

Research Interests: Bubelis explores Greek history and epigraphy (with a focus on Athens, the Peloponnese, and Northern Greece), economic history and numismatics (taxation, banking, numeracy), ancient religion's institutional dimensions, Attic oratory, historiography, and the political economy of the ancient Near East (Iron Age Mesopotamia, Cyprus, Achaemenid Empire). These areas are interwoven to analyze how material culture and fiscal systems shaped ancient socio-political structures.
Labs/Teams: As Curator of the Wulfing Coin Collection, he collaborates with institutions like the Wulfing Coin Collection and has co-presented with Sarantis Symeonoglou (Emeritus Professor of Art History and Archaeology) on ancient Athenian coins. His teaching includes courses such as 'Greek History: The Age of Alexander,' which examines post-Socratic Greece and Near Eastern transformations through Alexander's legacy.
