William P. Blair is a Research Professor at Johns Hopkins University's Department of Physics & Astronomy, affiliated with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. He splits his time between research at Johns Hopkins and serving as Project Scientist for User Support for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) at the Space Telescope Science Institute. Previously, he held leadership roles on the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) project, including Mission Planning Head (1996–2000) and Chief of Observatory Operations (2000–2009). He also contributed to the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope (flown on two shuttle missions) and uses instruments on the Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory.
- Education: PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan
His research focuses on experimental astrophysics, particularly supernova remnants and cataclysmic variable stars. He has extensive experience with space-based and ground-based observational facilities, emphasizing ultraviolet and X-ray astronomy.
