David Pooley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. His research focuses on extreme astrophysical phenomena using X-ray and gamma-ray observations, supplemented by radio, infrared, and optical data. He collaborates extensively with NASA missions such as the Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-ray Observatory, Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, and Swift Gamma-ray Burst Mission.
Research Areas:
- Supermassive black holes and quasars
- Supernovae and stellar explosions
- Dense stellar systems (globular clusters)
- Dark matter studies
- Ultraluminous X-ray sources
- Young star accretion processes
Pooley has secured over $4.2 million in funding through grants from NASA and the Research Corporation for Scientific Advancement. His 2014 Cottrell College Science Award and 2004 Chandra Postdoctoral Fellowship highlight his contributions to astrophysics. He also maintains an active program for undergraduate research, involving students in data analysis from space-based observatories.
