Dr. William I. Bauer is a Professor of Music Education and Director of the Online Master of Music in Music Education Program at the University of Florida's School of Music. He previously held positions at Case Western Reserve University (2001-2013 as Director of Music Education and Associate Professor), Ball State University (1997-2001), and Radford University. He earned degrees from The Ohio State University (BME), Bowling Green State University (MM), and Kent State University (PhD).
His research focuses on music education technology, creative thinking, and lifelong musicking. Bauer authored the influential textbook *Music Learning Today: Digital Pedagogy for Creating, Performing, and Responding to Music* (Oxford University Press, 2020). He has held editorial roles for journals like *Research Perspectives in Music Education* and contributed to numerous professional organizations including NAfME, SRME, and CMS.
Bauer's work addresses pandemic impacts on music educators, technology integration, and teacher development. He co-founded ISTE's Music & Technology Special Interest Group and chairs Florida's Music Education Research Committee. His awards include Apple Distinguished Educator (2003) and Google Certified Innovator (2008).
Bauer remains an active performer on euphonium and trombone, founding the Wadsworth Community Band. His research highlights technology's role in music education, emphasizing pedagogy, assessment, and educator well-being in evolving educational landscapes.
