Dr. William Barlow is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Aberdeen. His roles include teaching on programs such as PGDE Drama, MA/MSc courses, and post-graduate supervision. He specializes in drama education and theatre approaches, focusing on primary-secondary school transitions, care-experienced education, and site-specific theatre. Prior to joining Aberdeen in 2016, he worked at the University of Plymouth and as a Faculty Head of Expressive Arts in Scotland. His external engagements include consulting for SQA, theatre companies, and education departments internationally.
Research Interests:
- Using drama to support transition between educational stages
- Reminiscence theatre and community education
- Social justice in education, particularly for marginalized groups
- Creative pedagogies in teacher training
Publications span drama-based interventions, transition frameworks, and policy analyses. Notable works include systematic reviews on transition theories and applied theatre practices. Awards include the Santander award and AHRC funding. He leads the Expressive Arts group within the School and contributes to pedagogy initiatives at Aberdeen.
