William Bamber is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies, University of Toronto. His research focuses on global history with specializations in the Ottoman Middle East and South Asia. He examines how consumption patterns, technology, and transnational networks shaped identities, gender, and anti-imperialism in 18th-19th century Asia.
Education: PhD from the University of Washington, prior degrees from Sabancı University (Turkey) and Newcastle University (UK). His work is supported by CLIR-Mellon, SSRC IDRF, and ACLS-Mellon fellowships.
Current projects include a book analyzing trans-Asian fashion movements to explore ‘South-South’ identification and modernizing masculinity through technologies like image-print and machine sewing in 19th-century Asian cities.
