- Research Theme: ‘Public Procurement (Law) for Good’
His research examines how EU public procurement law can drive sustainability, climate action, and social justice through mandatory requirements rather than voluntary measures. Key projects include CIRCLASH (circular economy procurement) and Fertile Soils (land use and sustainability). He analyzes the tension between market integration and societal value creation, focusing on in-house delivery, public-public cooperation, and the ‘make-or-buy’ decisions in public task organization.
Scientific awards include a Societal Impact Award 2019 nomination for the BESTEK podcast and Best Lecturer of the Year shortlisting in 2018 and 2020. His work appears in journals like Hart Publishers, Utrecht Law Review, and Tijdschrift Aanbestedingsrecht, with keywords spanning EU law, climate change, and circular economy. He teaches Sustainable Public Procurement Law at the master’s level and executive courses for legal professionals.
