Will Niver is a Ph.D. Candidate and Instructor at the School of Resource & Environmental Management, Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on energy transition, low-carbon systems, and public policy. He holds a BA in History/Journalism from the University of North Carolina and an MA in Public Policy from Duke University. Previously, he worked at Duke University’s Energy Initiative, addressing coal communities and rural electrification.
He teaches REM 320W: Ethics and the Environment (Summer 2025) and REM 350: Energy Management for a Sustainable Climate and Society (Fall 2025). His articles analyze labor dynamics in mining, US electric power decarbonization, and energy policy frameworks.
Niver collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects like the Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Archaeology Project and the Environmental Toxicology Research Group. No formal awards are listed, but his work emphasizes community engagement and policy-relevant research.
