Wilfred Halls (1918–2011) was a pioneering figure in comparative education and a respected academic at the University of Oxford. He held positions as Tutor (from 1959) and Lecturer in Educational Studies, later becoming a Fellow of St Antony's College. His research focused on French educational systems, the intersection of education with culture and politics, and comparative language teaching methods. Notably, he co-founded Comparative Education journal and edited the Oxford Review of Education from 1974–1984. Halls' work on Vichy France's youth policies and educational history remains influential. Awards include membership in the Academia Europaea and recognition for his translations of French sociologists like Émile Durkheim.
