Wesley Leon Aroozoo is a Lecturer in Film at the New York University Tisch Asia in Singapore. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from NYU Tisch Asia and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from Nanyang Technological University. His work bridges creative arts and academic research, focusing on Singapore’s early history and innovative narrative structures.
His notable creative works include the novels Bedok Reservoir (2012), I Want to Go Home (2017), and The Punkhawala and The Prostitute (2021, Singapore Book Prize Winner). He has directed films screened globally, including at the Busan International Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam. His documentary Returning World War 2 Relics (2023) explores historical accountability.
Research interests emphasize Southeast Asian history and experimental storytelling formats. His films and performances, such as The Overhead (2022), blend multimedia and live art to engage audiences. Awards include the Talents Tokyo Development Grant and recognition at prominent film festivals.
He contributed to Mediacorp’s telemovie Cats and Dogs: The Chronicles of a Pest Detective as screenwriter and collaborated with the Asian Film Archive. His work reflects a commitment to interdisciplinary storytelling and historical exploration.
