Wes Brown is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Birkbeck, University of London, serving as Programme Director for the MAs in Creative Writing and Creative Writing & Contemporary Studies. His research focuses on masculinity, class, narrativity, and autofiction. He authored the autofictional novel Breaking Kayfabe (2023) and is working on forthcoming works like When Lights Are Bright (true crime) and St Anger: A Working-Class History of Violence. His articles explore narrative ethics, literary realism, and authorial identity. Awards include the CHASE Doctoral Scholarship (2019). He previously founded Dead Ink Books and has published widely in literary journals.
Research interests emphasize narrative non-fiction and the intersection of personal identity with creative expression. Articles analyze themes like the moral implications of writing monsters, temporal storytelling in life writing, and the tension between artistic realism and abstraction. Teaching includes modules on creative industries, publishing, and contemporary writing genres.
