Wendy Sanders is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts, Costume History, and Costume Design at Southern Utah University (SUU). She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Technical Theatre and Design. Before joining SUU, she worked with renowned institutions like the Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera, and the American Repertory Theatre. Her teaching focuses on courses such as Theatrical Design, Portfolio Development, and Methods in Theatre Arts Education.
Wendy emphasizes collaborative problem-solving in costume design, believing each production’s journey to find solutions is uniquely valuable. She advocates for immersive learning experiences, urging students to ‘soak up every experience’ during their college years. Her research interests span costume history, theatrical design, and educational methodologies.
Outside academia, her professional experience includes roles at major performance institutions, enriching her teaching with industry insights. She values the ephemeral nature of live theatre, where art exists only in the moment shared between performers and audience.
