Wendy Adams is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, McGill University (on leave). Her research explores intersections between law and popular culture, posthumanist animal studies, and legal pluralism. She holds an LL.M. from the University of Michigan (2000) and a JD from the University of Toronto (1996).
Her work critically examines legal norms rooted in cultural narratives rather than formal institutions. Key areas include analyzing dystopian fiction (e.g., Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as legal discourse, reification in legal theory, and animal-human relations through posthumanist frameworks. She has held academic roles at McGill since 2003, previously teaching at the University of Western Ontario (1999–2003).
Adams’ publications span legal pluralism, intellectual property, and biotechnology. Her 2017 book Narrative as Law argues for popular culture as direct legal authority. Articles address patent law boundaries, online property rights, and ethical challenges in biotechnology.
No scientific awards are listed. Her professional trajectory includes a Supreme Court clerkship (1998–1999) and research residencies at the Institute for the Public Life of Arts and Ideas (2012–2015).
