Brett Rogers is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at the University of Puget Sound since 2012. His research bridges ancient Greek drama with modern media, focusing on classical receptions in science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary performance contexts. He has received prestigious teaching awards including the Society for Classical Studies' Award for Excellence in Teaching (2021) and the Puget Sound Thomas A. Davis Teaching Award (2021).
Education: BA from Reed College (1999), PhD from Stanford University (2005). Teaching focuses on ancient literature in translation, myth theory, gender studies in antiquity, and intersections between classical texts and modern genres like sci-fi and fantasy. Courses include GLAM 339-A (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Antiquity) and GRK 201-A (Intermediate Greek).
Rogers has co-edited four major volumes in classical reception studies, including works on Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Frankenstein. His scholarship spans traditional and unconventional topics, from archaic Greek education to modern superhero narratives, emphasizing the dynamic dialogue between ancient and contemporary cultures.
