Weilai Yu will join the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering as an Assistant Professor on October 1, 2025. A Principal Investigator at the LOGICS Lab, Yu holds a B.Sc. from Wuhan, a Ph.D. from Caltech, and completed postdoctoral training at Stanford.

Yu's research program focuses on integrating fundamental electrochemistry, surface science, and functional material-interface design to develop next-generation technologies for energy conversion and storage. Using an interdisciplinary approach that combines high throughput experimentation, autonomous experimentation, and artificial intelligence, their work addresses critical challenges in:
- Interphase Optimization of Battery Materials
- Electrocatalytic Molecular Manufacturing for circular economy
- Solar-driven Chemical Reforming for environmental sustainability
