Senior Professor Weihua Li is a distinguished academic at the University of Wollongong (UOW), serving as Director and Professor in the School of Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronic and Biomedical Engineering since 2012. He holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University (2001) and advanced engineering degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China. His research focuses on smart materials, microfluidics, and mechatronics, with over 500 publications (h-index 93) and leadership roles in prestigious journals like Smart Materials and Devices and Lab on a Chip. Awards include Fellowships from Engineers Australia and the Institute of Physics (UK), and multiple UOW Excellence awards.
Research interests span smart materials, microfluidics, MEMS, and robotics, with applications in biomedical and industrial systems. Recent work emphasizes liquid metal composites, soft robotics, and inertial fluid manipulation. Over 50 grants since 2014 include projects on magnetorheological elastomers for mining, liquid metal sensors, and vibration control systems.
Teaching includes dynamics, control systems, and micro/nano robotics, with a focus on research integration. Supervises numerous PhD/Master’s projects on topics like robotic actuators, sensor development, and autonomous systems. Active in international conferences, including co-chairing the 2024 Advanced Smart Materials conference.
