Dr. Weibo Luo is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Pharmacology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he investigates the interplay between epigenetic/metabolic alterations and hypoxia in cancer development. His research aims to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities in human cancers.
- Ph.D. summa cum laude from the University of Magdeburg, Germany
- Postdoctoral fellowship and instructorship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Dr. Luo’s work centers on epigenetics, cancer biology, and metabolism, with a focus on hypoxia-induced mechanisms in tumor progression. He explores transcriptional coactivators, DNA repair pathways, and metabolic reprogramming in breast cancer and glioblastoma.
Recent publications emphasize epigenetic regulators (e.g., ZMYND8, KDM6B) and hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF-1/2) that drive tumor metastasis, resistance, and synthetic lethality. Studies include metabolic dependencies like BCAA and lipid signaling, alongside DNA repair nucleases (e.g., PARP-1, MIF) that sustain cancer survival.
Dr. Luo leads the Weibo Luo Lab, which actively researches these mechanisms and collaborates within UT Southwestern’s academic community. The lab’s efforts contribute to understanding tumor biology and developing targeted therapies.
