Dr. Wei Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He holds the Joseph F. Heil, Jr. Endowed Chair of Molecular Oncogenesis and serves as Co-Leader of the Cancer Biology Program and Director of the Structural Biology Shared Resource at the Cancer Center. His research focuses on cancer biology, structural biology, and drug development with an emphasis on molecular oncogenesis mechanisms and targeted therapies. Dr. Liu earned his PhD from The Ohio State University.
His research interests include protein degradation pathways, receptor signaling mechanisms, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for cancer. He has made significant contributions to understanding CRBN-mediated protein degradation, GPCR structure-function relationships, and oncogenic signaling pathways. Dr. Liu's work bridges structural biology with translational oncology, aiming to translate molecular insights into clinical applications.
Notable achievements include being recognized as a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher (2017-2021). His lab employs cutting-edge techniques like cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography to study membrane proteins and drug targets. Recent studies highlight targeted degradation strategies for cancer therapy and structural biology of receptors involved in oncogenesis.
