معرفی
Wei-Jun Qian is a distinguished Bioanalytical Chemist and Lab Fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), where he has been conducting groundbreaking research in the Integrative Omics group within the Biological Sciences Division since 2002. His work focuses on developing advanced mass spectrometry-based approaches to quantify dynamic changes in protein abundances and post-translational modifications with applications in diabetes, oxidative stress, and other clinical areas.
Education:
- PhD in Bioanalytical Chemistry, University of Florida
- BS in Chemistry, Nanjing University
Dr. Qian's research centers on the development and applications of mass spectrometry-based proteomics approaches. He has pioneered chemical proteomic methods for site-specific quantification of cysteine-based redox modifications and sensitive selected reaction monitoring techniques. His work spans pancreatic islet biology, diabetes research, and oxidative stress-related disease mechanisms, contributing significantly to our understanding of protein dynamics in health and disease. His innovative approaches have enabled more precise quantification of protein modifications at stoichiometric levels.
Analysis of Dr. Qian's recent publications reveals a strong focus on redox proteomics, particularly in quantifying protein thiol modifications in diabetes and oxidative stress contexts. His work increasingly incorporates nanoproteomics approaches for single-cell analysis and has expanded into clinical applications including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and environmental toxicology. The publications demonstrate his leadership in method development for quantitative proteomics, with emphasis on precision, sensitivity, and clinical translation.
Scientific Awards:
- Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (2011)
- Director's New Innovator Award, National Institutes of Health (2009)
Dr. Qian actively mentors postdoctoral researchers and intern students, fostering the next generation of proteomics scientists. His research has been supported by significant funding from NIH and other agencies, enabling cutting-edge instrumentation and collaborative projects. He maintains strong collaborations with clinical researchers to translate proteomic discoveries into potential diagnostic and therapeutic applications, particularly in diabetes and related metabolic disorders.
As a Lab Fellow at PNNL, Dr. Qian leads a research team within the Integrative Omics group that specializes in developing and applying advanced mass spectrometry technologies. His laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art proteomics instrumentation and has established protocols for redox proteomics, targeted quantification, and single-cell proteomics. The team collaborates extensively with researchers across PNNL and with external academic and clinical institutions.
