Wei-Jen Chang is a Professor of Biology at Hamilton College, holding the Winslow Chair of Modern Science. His research focuses on genetic diversity in fish parasites, genome organization in parasitic ciliates, gene regulation in nuclear dualism systems, and transposon evolution.
- Ph.D. and M.Sc. from State University of New York at Buffalo
- B.Sc. from National Taiwan University
- Postdoctoral work at Princeton University (gene evolution, genome organization)
Research Interests:
- Genetic diversity in Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (fish parasite)
- Genome organization in parasitic ciliates
- Gene regulation in nuclear dualism systems
- Transposon evolution and function
Publication Trends: Recent works emphasize computational biology (e.g., high-performance computing clusters), ciliate genomics (e.g., Oxytricha trifallax with 16,000 tiny chromosomes), and evolutionary mechanisms in parasitic organisms.
Scientific Awards:
- Class of 1963 Faculty Fellowship (2014)
- Research Corporation Cottrell College Science Award (2011)
- National Science Foundation (MRI-R2) Grant (2009)
- Class of 1966 Career Development Award (2009)
- Dean’s Award (SUNY Buffalo, 2000)
- Mark Diamond Fund (1999)
- Graduate Assistant Scholarship (SUNY Buffalo, 1994)
- President’s Award (National Taiwan University, 1990)
