Dr. Wei-Chun Chou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at the UNC School of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Immunology from National Taiwan University and completed postdoctoral training under Dr. Jenny Ting at UNC. Her research focuses on immune cell function, innate and adaptive immunity, and inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, asthma, and cancer. Key contributions include discovering AIM2’s role in regulatory T cells (Tregs) and its signaling pathways in autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Chou’s work integrates functional proteomics, molecular immunology, and animal models to study Treg metabolism, STING pathways, and NLR proteins. Her lab explores translational applications, such as modulating AIM2 signaling to treat autoimmune disorders or cancer. She is affiliated with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and has published in high-impact journals like Nature.
- Education: PhD in Immunology, National Taiwan University
- Postdoctoral Training: UNC-Chapel Hill, under Dr. Jenny Ting
Her research spans neuro-inflammation, lung inflammation, and cancer immunology, with a focus on molecular mechanisms linking innate immunity to disease pathogenesis. Recent studies include SARS-CoV-2 host interactions, radiation-induced microbiome changes, and NK cell activation via STING agonists.
