Wayne Koestenbaum is a Distinguished Professor of English at the CUNY Graduate Center and a Visiting Professor in the Painting Department at Yale University’s School of Art. His work bridges poetry, literary criticism, and cultural analysis, marked by playful yet incisive explorations of sexuality, high/low cultural intersections, and autobiographical themes.
His research interests include queer theory, modern poetry, art history (particularly Andy Warhol), and the interplay between form and content in creative writing. He has published extensively across genres, including poetry collections like *Model Homes* and nonfiction works such as *The Queen’s Throat*, which was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist.
His writing often defies traditional boundaries, blending confessional elements with formal experimentation. He critiques academic sectarianism while celebrating the freedom of associative leaps within structured forms like ottava rima. His interdisciplinary approach reflects a lifelong engagement with urban culture, pop art, and the tension between personal narrative and artistic rigor.
