Dr. Wayne Johnson is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Film Studies at York St John University's School of Humanities. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Keele (1990), along with a BA in History and American Studies and a Master's in American Studies. His research focuses on American social/cultural history, including the American Civil War, slavery in the U.S., Hollywood's portrayal of urban America, race/ethnicity, and American popular culture's global reception. He has taught at Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Wales, Lampeter before joining York St John.
