Dr. Luse specializes in Antebellum Southern History, focusing on the role of the Proslavery Argument, 19th Century Ethnology, and the Use of Scientific Racism in the Proslavery Argument. His research delves into how pseudoscientific theories like polygenesis were weaponized to justify slavery during the 19th century.
His publications include a peer-reviewed journal article on polygenesis and the defense of slavery (2007), a bicentennial history book on Mississippi (2017), and a dissertation expanding on the same themes (2008).
