Wasifa Tasnim Shamma is a PhD candidate at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka (Bangladesh). She holds a dual role as Graduate Assistant and Research Assistant at Memorial University. Her research focuses on urban informality, homelessness, and neo-liberal governance with a particular emphasis on gendered dimensions in urban spaces.
Education includes B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, specializing in urban ecology and women's spatial practices. She has served as Lecturer and Course Contract Faculty at Brac University prior to her current positions.
Notable research includes projects on e-health interventions for transgender women in Dhaka, mental healthcare access for people with disabilities, and HIV/AIDS affected children mapping. She has participated in UNDP-funded projects related to democracy improvement and maternal health initiatives.
Academic contributions include conference presentations at the Canadian Sociological Association and organizing international conferences on urbanization, democracy, and social justice at the University of Dhaka.
