Dr. Wander Jager is an Associate Professor and Managing Director of the Groningen Center for Social Complexity Studies (GCSCS) at University College Groningen, University of Groningen. His work focuses on social complexity, agent-based modeling, and sustainable behavior, with a particular emphasis on understanding micro-macro interactions in social systems. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences (2000) from the University of Groningen, where he also served as Assistant Professor of Marketing before moving to his current role in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
His research interests include social simulation, behavioral dynamics, and the application of computational models to environmental and societal challenges. Key projects involve EU-funded initiatives like ACTISS (computational social science education), INCITE-DEM (citizenship in global transformation), and MOBI-TWIN (spatial mobility transitions). He has contributed to over 113 publications, with recent work exploring topics like task allocation dynamics, cultural impacts on vaccination attitudes, and norm-driven social innovation.
Jager has received awards including the Snijders-Kouwer-award (2000) and best paper awards for his work on consumer behavior models. Beyond research, he leads educational programs such as the Honours Bachelor in Social Complexity and teaches modules on sustainable markets and behavioral dynamics.
His affiliations include editorial roles at Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation and memberships in the European Social Simulation Association. He also manages the GCSCS, fostering interdisciplinary research on complex societal challenges.
