Wanda Taylor is an Adjunct Professor in Journalism at King's College (Dalhousie University) and Cohort Director of the Master of Fine Arts in Fiction program. She holds a BJ (ECE), BSW (Dalhousie), and MEd (MSVU). A multi-award-winning writer, filmmaker, and journalist, her work spans nonfiction, fiction, screenwriting, and journalism. She focuses on marginalized histories, diverse storytelling, and Canadian cultural narratives. Her books include Birchtown and the Black Loyalists and The Grover School Pledge, which received the 2023 Northern Lights Book Award.
Her research interests emphasize human interest stories, social justice, and investigative reporting. She has published widely in anthologies like Dark Mountain Essay Anthology and outlets such as Globe and Mail. Awards include the CAJ Award of Excellence and Women of Excellence Award for Arts and Culture. As a sensitivity reader, she collaborates with publishers like Simon & Schuster to ensure authenticity in manuscripts addressing race, diversity, and cultural history.
Taylor’s academic roles include teaching creative writing, screenwriting, and journalism. She also served as Acquisitions Editor, championing emerging authors, and contributes to initiatives like the Amazing Women children’s series highlighting Black Canadian figures.
