Wanda McCormick is a Professor and Head of the Department of Animal and Agriculture at Hartpury College. She holds a Senior Fellowship from Advance HE and is actively involved in academic governance, serving on the QAA advisory group for Agriculture and related fields. Her research focuses on companion animal welfare, with particular emphasis on physiological impacts of welfare challenges and nutrition. She has extensive experience in supervising PhD/MPhil students, with notable completions in areas like herpetofauna trade analysis and aquaculture's role in food security.
Education: Holds a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from Cardiff University, followed by an MRes in Physiology and a PhD in Physiology from the University of Manchester. She also completed a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education from the University of Northampton.
Research Interests: Wanda's work spans animal welfare challenges in captive environments, companion animal nutrition, and applied industry partnerships with organizations like Dodson & Horrell and the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Her recent studies include reptile husbandry standards in pet shops and online herpetofauna trade ethics.
Professional Roles: External Examiner at multiple UK universities (Plymouth University, University of Surrey, etc.), member of the Royal Society of Biology, and STEM Ambassador. She has led initiatives like the QAA Subject Benchmark review for Agriculture disciplines.
