Wan Bakx is a Lecturer at the Department of Earth Observation Science at the University of Twente, specifically within the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). He holds multiple administrative roles including Portfolio Holder for Education in the Management Team, Course Director for Geoinformatics, and Course Coordinator for the Geoinformatics Master of Science program. His career spans over three decades in remote sensing, geoinformatics education, and program management. Bakx has contributed to curriculum development, notably restructuring the Geoinformatics program into a modular framework adopted across ITC.
Education: Master's degree in Physical Geography - Digital Cartography from Utrecht University (1987). Professional experience includes roles at ITC since 1987, progressing from Data Analyst to leadership positions. Current teaching focuses include the Core Module on Earth Observation, Diploma Course in Remote Sensing, and Distance Education initiatives.
Research interests center on Earth Observation Science, GIS applications, and educational innovation in geoinformatics. His work addresses practical implementation of theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, particularly in developing countries through capacity-building projects.
