Walter Zinn is a Professor of Logistics in the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the Max M. Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University. He has held significant academic administrative roles including a six-year term as Chair of the Department of Marketing and Logistics and served as Fisher College's Associate Dean for Graduate Students and Programs from 2016 to 2019. He was also immediate past Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Business Logistics (2015-2020), having previously served as Systems Section Editor for the same journal.
His educational background includes a PhD and MBA from Michigan State University along with a BA from Fundacao Getulio Vargas.
Professor Zinn's research centers broadly on the relationship between inventory management and customer service with specific interests in postponement, portfolio effect, consumer responses to stockouts, and risk management. His current work focuses on supply chain plasticity and crowdsourced delivery decisions. His scholarly contributions span over three decades with consistent focus on inventory management, supply chain design, and customer service. Recent publications reveal an evolving interest in digital transformation of supply chains, sustainability issues in retailing, and addressing contemporary challenges like supply chain disruptions and racial issues in supply chain management. His work demonstrates a clear trajectory from foundational inventory management concepts toward more complex systemic issues in global supply chains.

Professor Zinn has directed student teams in more than 100 projects with clients across the United States and globally through his projects course. He has completed two studies for the World Bank examining supply chain management problems generated by imperfections in public policy. His teaching encompasses both graduate and undergraduate logistics courses, including BUSML 5389 - Logistics Decision Making.
His global engagement spans the US, Europe, China, and Latin America through conference presentations and collaboration with academic and business communities worldwide.
