Dr Wali Aslam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies at the University of Bath. His research focuses on International Relations theory, Asian security, US foreign policy, and the implications of drone warfare. He holds a PhD in International Studies from the University of Leeds, with prior academic roles at Brunel University and Forman Christian College in Pakistan.
Education: BA and MA (International Studies) in Pakistan, MA and PhD (International Studies) from the University of Leeds.
Research Interests: Dr Aslam explores the intersection of International Relations theory, Asian security dynamics, and US foreign policy toward South Asia. His work critically examines American drone strikes in Pakistan through lenses of English School theory and constructivism. Recent projects include analyzing the indirect consequences of drone warfare and the politics of regional identity in Asia.
Teaching Innovation: Awarded the University of Bath's 2015 Innovation in Learning and Teaching Award for pioneering videoconferencing integration in classrooms, connecting students with conflict-affected regions. This approach enhances engagement with real-world geopolitical challenges.
- Key Projects: Indirect Consequences of American Drone Strikes in Pakistan (Oxford Research Group), MENA Social Policy Network collaborations, and Conflict and Peace-building in the MENA Region (AHRC-funded).
- Professional Memberships: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), British International Studies Association (BISA), and reviewer for journals like International Relations and Civil Wars.
