Prof. Waldemar Wojtal is a distinguished pianist and educator at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, where he has taught since 1979 and currently heads the Piano Department. Previously, he served as Rector of the Academy (1993–1999 and 2004–2005), overseeing the relocation to modern facilities and the construction of a concert hall. His pedagogical legacy includes training internationally acclaimed pianists, many of whom are active concert performers.
Education: Graduated with distinction from Gdańsk Academy under Prof. Zbigniew Śliwiński, followed by postgraduate studies in Paris with Vlado Perlemuter and Suzanne Roche. Further refined his skills at masterclasses with György Sebök and Dieter Zechlin.
Research interests focus on piano performance pedagogy and artistic education strategies. He actively mentors prodigious young pianists through the National Children's Fund and collaborates with Poland's Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. His jury roles span national and international competitions (e.g., Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Taiwan), and he founded the International Baltic Piano Competition.
Awards: Recipient of Poland’s highest cultural honors including Gloria Artis Medal and National Education Medal, alongside recognition from the Fryderyk Chopin Society. His administrative contributions were pivotal in transforming the Academy into a modern academic campus.
