W. Warner Wood

W. Warner Wood is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), specializing in cultural anthropology with a focus on heritage politics, tourism, and museum studies. He coordinates the Museum Studies Graduate Certificate Program and serves as an Adjunct Curator at the Milwaukee Public Museum. His research examines transnational cultural dynamics, particularly in Oaxaca, Mexico, and Northern India, exploring how material culture and ecotourism sites reflect contested meanings among stakeholders.

His research interests include the global ethnic art market, participatory action research in community museum development, and the role of museums in meaning-making. Current projects involve mangrove conservation cooperatives in Oaxaca and extending studies to Northern India's textile markets. He teaches courses on cultural anthropology, museum administration, and the anthropology of tourism.

Wood has curated exhibitions such as Nuestra Casa (2012) and A River Interrupted (2011), addressing border health advocacy and environmental management. His work bridges academic research with community-driven initiatives.
