Julieta Pestarino, Ph.D. in History and Theory of Arts from the University of Buenos Aires, is an Associate Scholar at the 4A_Lab (Art Histories, Archaeologies, Anthropologies, Aesthetics), a research program within the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (Max Planck Society). Her interdisciplinary work bridges anthropology, art history, and curation, focusing on Latin American photography and its intersections with global art history.
Her research explores the historical and aesthetic dimensions of photography, particularly through case studies like La Carpeta de los Diez (a 1950s European photographer collective in Buenos Aires) and Maravillas de nuestras plantas indígenas (a 1935 Argentine botanical photography project). She investigates decolonial frameworks, ecology, and the dual scientific/artistic functions of photographic media.
