Véronique Chance is a Senior Lecturer and Course Director for the MA Fine Art program at Anglia Ruskin University's Cambridge School of Art, Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. Based in London, she has previously taught as an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts London and as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln. She holds a PhD from Goldsmith's College, University of London, along with qualifications from Manchester Polytechnic, Glasgow School of Art, and the Royal College of Art.
Her research focuses on contemporary art practices, particularly the representation of the body, performance, documentation, technology, and the embodied dynamics of spectatorship, with running playing a key role in her artistic methodology. She investigates how running can be used as an artistic practice to reconsider relationships between live performance and documentation in the age of technologically mediated images. Her work also explores the expanded field of contemporary print and the relationship between printmaking and technological developments in reproductive media.
Véronique's recent artistic output has centered around running-based projects including the Thames Run series, both as durational performances and as documented artworks. Her publication RE:PRINT (2018), co-edited with Duncan Ganley, critically rethinks the notion of 'print' as both artwork and published multiple in the twenty-first century. Her exhibitions and publications demonstrate a consistent engagement with interdisciplinary approaches that bridge performance, printmaking, digital media, and landscape studies.
- Arts Council of England (ACE) Grants for the Arts Award for RE:PRINT (2018)
- Honourable Mention at Avanca Cinema International Conference (2017)
- Time/Space Residency with METAL, Southend (2018)
- Staff Research award for RE:Print project (2013)
Véronique actively supervises PhD students in contemporary fine art practice, particularly in performance, photographic media, and expanded printmaking. She is a member of the interdisciplinary JSIC Running Cultures Research Group and a founder member of the Running Artfully Network (RAN), which launched in 2021 to reframe running as an artistic intervention. Her current research involves the Thames Run: Source to Sea project, examining running as a methodology for understanding landscape and place.
