Dr. Vu Nguyen is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at the University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus. He leads university bands and oversees ensemble programs. Previously, he held roles as Director of Wind Ensembles at the University of Connecticut, Director of Bands at the University of Indianapolis, and conducted at Washington University and Indiana University. His research focuses on contemporary wind band literature, Frank Zappa’s music, and conducting pedagogy. He served as guest conductor for the U.S. Air Force Bands and regional honor bands, with ensemble performances at major music conferences.

Dr. Nguyen is also a commander/conductor of the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast, leading a 40-member squadron across eight western states. His publication on Carter Pann contributes to contemporary wind band scholarship.
