Dr. Vrinda Narain is an Associate Professor at McGill University’s Faculty of Law, with a cross-appointment in the Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on constitutional law, feminist legal theory, social diversity, postcolonial studies, and critical race theory. She holds a DCL (McGill), LLM (McGill), LLB (Delhi University), and BA in History (Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University).
She authored Reclaiming the Nation: Muslim Women and the Law in India (2008) and Gender and Community: Muslim Women's Rights in India (2001). Her 2017 Charles D. Gonthier Research Fellowship recognizes her scholarship on legal pluralism and multiculturalism. She served as Associate Dean, Academic (2016–2019).
Her work critiques laws impacting religious minorities and gender equity in India and Quebec. Notable publications include analyses of Quebec’s Bill 21 and Bill 62, India’s Triple Talaq decision, and transnational feminist legal frameworks. Media engagements include CBC and The Conversation on religious freedom and human rights.
