Volkan Muslu is a Professor and Arthur Andersen Chair of Accounting at the University of Houston's C. T. Bauer College of Business, Department of Accountancy and Taxation. He joined Bauer in 2012, previously serving at the University of Texas at Dallas (2005–2012). He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from MIT's Sloan School of Management (2005), an MBA from Koç University (1998), and a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University (1996). Dr. Muslu coordinates Bauer's doctoral program and has authored numerous articles in top-tier journals like the Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Management Science.
His research focuses on financial intermediaries, corporate disclosures, and governance. Key areas include MD&A disclosures' impact on firm investments, analyst behavior in cross-listed firms, and slack's role in crash risk. He has won awards such as the Bauer College Excellence in Research Award (2015) and the Journal of International Accounting Research Best Paper Award (2020).
Teaching highlights include Intermediate Financial Accounting courses with high student ratings. Academic service roles include editorial positions at Corporate Governance: An International Review and committee memberships at the American Accounting Association. He has advised over a dozen doctoral students, many securing academic positions globally.
