Dr. Vladimir E. Romanovsky is a Professor of Geophysics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), affiliated with the Geophysical Institute. He has held academic positions since 1975, transitioning from Moscow State University to UAF in 1992.

His research focuses on permafrost dynamics, soil thermodynamics, and mathematical modeling of heat and mass transfer in frozen ground. He studies subsea permafrost, seasonally frozen soils, and snow cover processes.
Dr. Romanovsky actively contributes to international initiatives such as the World Climate Research Programme's Climate and Cryosphere Project (WCRP CliC), co-chairs the Global Terrestrial Network for Permafrost (GTN-P), and advises on Arctic infrastructure adaptation. He leads the Permafrost Laboratory at UAF and participates in NASA NEESPI and Arctic Research Commission activities.
