Alexander L. Kholodov

Dr. Alexander L. Kholodov serves as a Research Assistant Professor at the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, a position held since 2020 following prior roles as Research Associate (2014-2020) and Research Scholar Visitor (2007-2014). His career includes senior scientist work at Russia's Institute of Physical-Chemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science RAS (2001-2007).

His academic credentials include:

• M.S. in Geocryology, Lomonosov Moscow State University (1996)

Research focuses on permafrost temperature dynamics, cryogenic processes, gas hydrate-permafrost interactions, organic compounds in frozen ground, offshore permafrost systems, Arctic coastal dynamics, and Quaternary geological history. His work addresses critical climate change impacts on cryosphere stability through field monitoring and geophysical analysis.

He is integral to the Permafrost Laboratory at UAF's Geophysical Institute, which operates the Permafrost Watch program (www.permafrostwatch.org) for long-term Arctic environmental tracking.
