Vivian Go is a Professor in the Department of Health Behavior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health. She serves as Associate Director of the Center for AIDS Research Social and Behavioral Science Core and is a Member of the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases (IGHID). Her work focuses on HIV/AIDS, co-morbidities (e.g., mental health and opioid use disorders), stigma reduction, and implementation science, with over 20 years of research in Vietnam.
Education: PhD in Health Policy and Management (Johns Hopkins University, 2003); MPH in Public Health (Johns Hopkins, 1995); MA in International Economics/Social Change (Johns Hopkins, 1994); BA in International Relations (Hamilton College, 1988).
Research highlights include the REDART and SNaP trials addressing alcohol reduction and HIV care among Vietnamese populations, the Ohio Opioid Project (OHOP), and leadership of an NIH D43 implementation science training program in Vietnam. She co-directs the UNC-Vietnam site, a clinical and behavioral research hub established with Dr. Tran Viet Ha, supporting over 30 Vietnamese staff and collaborations with institutions like Hanoi Medical University.
Key contributions include scaling evidence-based interventions, integrating mental health and substance use care, and addressing stigma among key populations. Her work bridges clinical and behavioral research, emphasizing global health equity and policy impact.
