Lawrence H Yang is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at New York University (NYU). He also serves as Associate Director of the Global Center for Implementation Science and Founding Director of NYU’s Global Mental Health and Stigma Program. His work focuses on stigma reduction, global mental health, and cultural anthropology, with significant contributions to understanding stigma related to mental illness, HIV, and migration. Dr. Yang has pioneered frameworks like the ‘What Matters Most’ approach to culturally tailored interventions. He leads NIH-funded grants, including studies on untreated psychosis in China, stigma in Botswana, and implementation science for task-sharing mental health strategies globally.

He co-leads a D43 Training Grant in Vietnam and collaborates globally on stigma reduction frameworks. Recent work addresses migration stigma, culminating in a MIT Press book and JAMA publications.
